A
widely known potter from Albuquerque creates outstanding large
jars and metate platters in Raku. Asymmetry and strong shapes
characterize her pieces. Anderson's pots and metate platters
have an organic look with pitted and modeled surfaces created
from local lava rock rolled over the soft clay before she creates
the vessel. With a sense of adventure and experimentation, her
process makes the tones of the finished pieces seem to emanate
from within as opposed to the colors of a surface glaze. "I
can control the shape, the texture, and the application of oxides
and salt,
but in the end the fire determines the final effect."
